Nantwich Museum is looking for a highly motivated and proactive Project Officer to oversee an exciting heritage and community engagement project.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
“Nantwich Salt: the story behind the growth of the town” is supported by The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
The project will explore and celebrate the important role that salt production has played in the history, economy and development of Nantwich.
It will include a new permanent museum exhibit, audiovisual content, an animated film, a Cheshire-wide salt trail, community activities, public demonstrations, school projects and volunteer-led research.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Project Officer will oversee the day-to-day delivery of this multifaceted project.
Working closely with the Museum Manager, staff, volunteers, community groups and regional heritage partners, the successful candidate will coordinate activities, develop engaging interpretation and help the Museum reach new audiences.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Develop and deliver community activities exploring Nantwich’s salt history
• Engage new audiences with the Museum and its collections
• Support the development of a new permanent salt exhibition
• Help recruit and coordinate an interpretive design company
• Work with volunteers to research, co-create and develop exhibition content
• Coordinate heritage partners involved in the Cheshire-wide salt trail
• Organise online and in-person partner meetings
• Ensure project content and activities are diverse, inclusive and accessible
• Coordinate public demonstrations, events and school activities
• Support younger audiences in creating and promoting a digital sound trail
• Coordinate and support volunteers involved in research and community activities
• Arrange appropriate training for volunteers
• Develop an evaluation framework for project activities
• Monitor project outputs, outcomes and milestones
• Contribute to reporting required by The National Lottery Heritage Fund
• Develop community relationships and identify future partnership opportunities
• Contribute ideas for future grant-funded projects
WHAT THEY’RE LOOKING FOR
ESSENTIAL
• A degree in a relevant subject
• An understanding of the importance of local history
• Experience working on heritage or community projects, including voluntary experience
• Experience working with volunteers or community groups
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Excellent organisational and project-management skills
• The ability to work independently and manage an individual work plan
• Good IT skills and confidence using new technology
• The ability to travel within Cheshire
• The existing right to work in the UK
DESIRABLE
• Experience or qualifications relating to museums or Museum Studies
• Experience working on heritage or cultural projects
• Experience engaging community groups and volunteers
• Experience delivering externally funded projects
• Experience using digital media to engage audiences
WORKING ARRANGEMENTS
The position is part-time at 22.5 hours per week, normally worked across three days. The Museum may consider distributing the hours across four days, including school-hours arrangements.
The contract is fixed-term for 13 months and is based at Nantwich Museum. Occasional off-site, evening and weekend work will be required.
The successful candidate will be expected to complete a DBS check and act as a Museum keyholder.
SALARY
£16,200 per year for the 0.6 FTE position, based on a full-time equivalent salary of £27,000.
